The word of God is a mystery yet so simple if we would just hear, obey, and follow after the leading of the Holy Spirit. It only becomes complicated and hard to comprehend when we lean to our own limited understanding and man’s faulty “wisdom”. It becomes controversial as we bite against one another to prove our way is best or to support our own lustful desires, while sadly forgetting it must be God’s way or no way at all. Life or death. Victory or defeat. Unified or divided. Obedience or disobedience. Blessing or cursing. Saved or unsaved. Holiness or hell. The choice is always ours!! Simple, but we trick ourselves into believing it’s more complex.
Have you ever noticed that the greatest scholars among us by the world’s standards often have the greatest struggle simply receiving and believing by faith what God has already spoken?
The Word of God is mighty, it tears down strongholds, and it is a right now LIVING WORD!! It speaks directly to our hearts, souls, and minds, if we would just allow it. It’s amazing how the Lord can take the same word to reveal something new, deeper, and relevant to our current situation when we are open to receiving it, and listening with our spiritual ears. Feast on the Word and meditate on it today.
It’s time to go DEEPER!!
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.
1 Corinthians 2
2 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.
Hey, married couples. Come join our new Facebook group to discuss all things marriage from a Christian perspective. Hope to see you there!!
This is great advice!! Thanks for allowing me to share it Janel Pleasant! ❤
A wife asked for prayer and encouragement in a group I belong to on Facebook recently for her family due to both of them (husband and wife) being suddenly unemployed. The result of unexpected company layoffs. UGGH! Testing. Pressure. An overwhelming fight. We’ve all been there at some point, and if not trust me one day you will. Let’s face it, that’s just life. Joy and pain. Sunshine and rain. Life.
Isn’t it great to find a community that is willing to support and uplift you in your daily walk with God when the trials of life come to you just like this couple? To me, it’s priceless. The loving hug of a caring church member that covers you with love and God’s peace. The unwavering support of family (by blood or otherwise) that lifts you up when you are falling down. You can even be miles apart and complete strangers, yet your prayers of faith and your words of encouragement can cover the distance to tear down strongholds, encourage the downtrodden, and build up the broken things in a weary life . WOW!! Like I said, priceless!!
Below is a copy of my response which was just one of many that I also wanted to share with you, my readers, in case you are going through a similar situation. The person to whom I originally wrote this message wrote me back that it really encouraged them, and that it was just what they needed to hear. Praise God! He knows exactly what we all need, and if we listen He can give us the right words to speak (or write) in the right season too. It is by His spirit that souls can be saved, delivered, and set free, but we are His chosen vessels to carry out the work. Hallelujah!!
My testimony …
Years ago we went through this also. I was a stay at home mom at the time, and my husband loss his job. Instantly I felt panic, but through prayer I found peace. It was a difficult season at times, but God took us through. One of my favorite memories is when a brother in Christ showed up at our door with groceries out of the blue and without knowing our current situation. He simply told us God told him to bring the groceries, so he did. Amazing! I always remember that as one of the many times I’ve seen for myself of God’s faithfulness. I have so many personal stories from my life to look back on to know for myself that the bible is true and not another book, but they came mostly in the valley. I’ve heard it said before that in order to see a miracle you must first have a need. God is still in the miracle business!! Be of good courage!!
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
Many churches begin each new year in a season of prayer and fasting as a means of consecration and separation from the demands of this world. If you are currently fasting this reading is for you, and if not maybe you could consider a period of fasting soon (it’s a biblical expectation that we all should at some point anyway).
Sharing some spiritual food…
This season of fasting is a perfect opportunity for reflection on how we are doing with carrying out the assignment God has given to each of us to serve others.
Your some what empty, growling belly should produce more empathy for those who are hungry on a daily basis. Perfect!! Your extra prayer and study of the word should re-ignite your desire to go witness to somebody. Anybody!! Your quiet time of meditation should slow you down just enough to notice the hurting, fearful souls who are all around you on a daily basis. Do you see? Awesome!!
Take this time of fasting to ask God to show you how you can serve or help support someone else in your home, church, community, or worldwide.
We have supported St. Judes Research Hospital for many years in addition to our giving at church, because they provide care to children with cancer from donations only. I personally love ministering to children, so that fact instantly tugged on my heart. Just think, that is one less concern for the stressed out, heartbroken parents, because their child is cared for at no charge to them. That’s a blessing!!
Hospitals. Prisons. Nursing homes. Local and global missions. There are so many opportunities available for us to help others beyond our own walls!! So, what are YOU going to do today to serve others, and as an extension God?
Words To Stand On…
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Walk It Out…
Stop and take a moment to meditate on this devotional and more importantly the mighty Word of God. How does this apply to you on today? What are you currently believing God for in your life? What do you need to let go of or stop doing immediately? What do you need to begin doing? Pray and listen. Now step out in faith and go forth in Jesus name!
This is a new day with endless possibilities, limited only by your imagination and your obedience. Keep God first in all that you do and your path will be bright. You are called and chosen for a purpose, and it’s time to step out in faith!
My daughter has prayed for snow where we live every year, and each time she has been disappointed. I felt her hurt and sadness each time as her mother, because I really wanted her to see the power of prayer in her life for herself. Last year, I even tried to talk my husband into driving 4-5 hours away, so she could see snow for the first time. He sensibly refused. Lol. Isn’t it interesting that even when we see what happened when people tried to make their prayer requests or promises happen themselves in the bible that we still try to do it today? Think, for example, about the story of Abraham and Sarah. Hmmm.
Snow, such a simple request, but seemingly impossible in a place where snow is unheard of in the winter. I feel bad to admit we even teased her at times saying this might finally be her year when she insisted on continuing to pray every single winter for snow after a time without results. Yet, as children of God, we must often face doubters and ridicule from those who can’t catch hold of our God given vision too. Don’t we?
However, she never quit praying in faith. Childlike faith. Priceless!! She is now 12, but today her prayers were finally answered. It snowed here!!!! We had a ball playing in the snow together as a family!!!
The message in all of this was clear. You may get discouraged in the wait, but don’t murmur or complain. No matter how long you’ve been sending up your request don’t quit!! Keep believing!! Keep praying!! God is able!!!
