Jehovah-Rapha – “God my Healer”
Physical, mental, spiritual, whatever your infirmity God can heal it on today!!
It’s easy to proclaim that God is a healer to those around you in the good times, but so much harder to believe during our own personal affliction. Too often we bemoan our situation and circumstance when trouble comes, without even realizing the new level in God that we will obtain if we simply hold on and pass the test. No test. No testimony. We simply must endure to the end to see the promise, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28.
We say this is true with our mouth, but do we really believe it? When our trial comes, and it will, then we will know where we stand in our faith. Then, we will be able to truly declare with power that God is a healer because of our personal experience with Him as our great physician.
Growing up I had the opportunity to see the power of God first hand when somebody prays in faith!
As a child, I broke my arm by disobeying my father’s direction to get out of a tree, and the doctor told my mother my arm would probably never grow properly due to where the break occurred. My mother laid her hands on my arm in faith and prayed, and God answered. I had two surgeries, and my parents refused the third. The only visible sign that remains of that experience is a simple scar that my students often ask me about, and I use as a lesson about listening to your parents.
Another time, the eye doctor told my mother that I would probably be blind by age 18 due to pressure behind my eyes, and once again my mother said, “not so” and prayed. God is faithful, and although I’m blind as a bat without contacts/glasses (smile), yet still I can see.
My grandmother has testified to how her knees have been worn out from praying for my father in his youth. I heard her say once, in love mind you, that he was the worst of her eight children when testifying how God answered her prayers for him to be saved and delivered, and you know what he’s a pastor on today. If he did it for one, he can do it for you too. Spiritually sick, there is a cure in Jesus!
As an adult, I have experienced God’s healing power too.
Once I was dealing with a spiritual attack on my mind. I prayed and fasted, but still no breakthrough. One day a family member called from another state, and we talked and we hung up the phone. However, a few minutes later she called back and said the Lord showed her something was wrong, and she began to pray in the mighty name of Jesus and instantly I was set free!! Jesus. Jesus. Jesus!! There is power in that name! Dealing with mental issues: anxiety, stress, depression, oppression, whatever it may be. God can deliver you!
After two high risk pregnancies/premature babies and one miscarriage, the ladies of my church laid hands on me and prayed for my next pregnancy and unborn child, and that pregnancy was without difficulty. My child was born healthy and full term!
On two other occasions, the doctors said there was an issue with an exam. I asked for prayer. For one issue, surgery was required. That’s okay. The Lord gives doctors the wisdom and knowledge to care for our bodies, so let them if it is necessary. On the other occasion, I went back for further testing, and the results came back all clear! Praise the Lord. Prayer works! God is a healer, no matter what method he chooses!
For the past few years I have dealt with a health issue again, however because of my experience with God I can rest in Him, knowing that He is able to fix my situation in His way and His timing. Does this make it easier? No not physically, but spiritually I can be at peace though it all, and when I get weary I can do as I did one night at church, and go to my brother and sister in Christ and ask them to lift me up in prayer. You should do likewise. The prayers of the righteous availeth much!
The greatest blessing of it all, as a child of God, is that we know that complete healing is ours whether on this side or the next. Some do not receive physical healing on this side, but we know that healing, victory, deliverance is already ours through Christ on the other side!! Praise God!!
In closing, think on the words to that old song by Elisha A Hoffman, and continue to trust God for your healing or that of a loved one. He’s able!
What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the everlasting arms?
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Stand On It…
1 Corinthians 15:53-55
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
Walk It Out…
Stop and take a moment to meditate on this devotional and more importantly the mighty Word of God. How does this apply to you on today? What are you currently believing God for in your life? What do you need to let go of or stop doing immediately? What do you need to begin doing? Pray and listen. Now step out in faith and go forth in Jesus name!
